The invisible plastic in your skincare – what no one is talking about

YAG Beauty ekologiska hudvårdsprodukter vid en klar nordisk sjö – ren natur och clean beauty

When we hear the word microplastic, most people think of plastic bags, bottles or rubbish floating in the ocean.

But plastic can also be found where you least expect it – in your face cream, your foundation and your hair wax.

Many conventional cosmetic products contain synthetic polymers. They are used to give a smooth feeling, improve durability, thicken the cream or make make-up last longer.

The problem?

Many of these substances do not degrade easily in nature.

When we wash our face or shower, residues of our skincare products are carried away with the wastewater. Wastewater treatment plants are effective, but they are not designed to capture all types of synthetic substances.

This means that some eventually end up in our lakes and seas.

This does not mean that all synthetic chemistry is bad.

On the contrary, modern chemistry has made amazing advances in skincare.

But we need to start demanding more.

Can the same results be achieved with biodegradable ingredients?

Can we choose raw materials from the plant kingdom instead of fossil oil?

Can we develop products that are just as effective – but leave a smaller footprint?

At YAG, we believe the answer is yes.

We believe that the skincare of the future should not only provide results for the skin.

It should also show respect for nature.

Small choices become big when millions of people make them together.

And change often starts in the bathroom cabinet.
